Stovetop Simmering Potpourri Recipes
These simmering potpourri recipes, which include herbs, spices, and essential oils, can be used in a pot on the stove top or in an electric pot-pourri pot. They’ll help to freshen the air and remove stale odors. Great to use around holiday times and when expecting guests. They can also be especially nice to use when doing an open house to make sure your house smells nice and homey.
Citrus Vanilla Dream
2 C water
2 T orange peel
1/4 vanilla bean (chopped and split)
5 drops bergamot essential oil
5 drops lemon essential oil
Cinnamon Apple Pie
1 C water
1 C apple cider
5 allspice berries, crushed
5 cardamom pods, crushed
3 short cinnamon sticks, broken
2 whole nutmegs, broken
1 T whole cloves, crushed
1 T dried apple pieces
3 drops cinnamon essential oil
Holidays at Home
2 C water
5 dried bay leaves, broken
5 whole star anise, crushed
3 short cinnamon sticks, broken
2 whole nutmegs, broken
1 T whole cloves, crushed
1 tsp orange peel
3 drops cinnamon essential oil
3 drops sweet orange essential oil
To crush or break whole spices, place in a paper bag and hit with hammer or other hard object.
The above recipes make nice gifts as well. Add dry ingredients to muslin culinary bag and include instructions. Tie to outside of present, Christmas gift or other winter holiday package.
Instructions for stovetop: Bring liquid to a boil then add dry ingredients and turn heat down to simmer. Replace liquid as needed.
*Reduce liquid amounts if using electric potpourri simmer pot.
